The Freshman Start Program

This plan takes full advantage of the high school years to prepare for a successful transition to college by allowing students and families extra time to refine learning strategies and build related skills. The Freshman Start includes a review of the student’s educational history and psycho-educational testing and features an in-depth interview with student and parents, college readiness and personality/career assessments, goal setting for the college search, and recommendations for academic tutoring and skills-building sessions. Students receive a personalized list of college options with detailed information on services and contacts, as well as guidance on how to evaluate schools. Ten sessions cover the entire college planning process, including assistance with high school course selection, recommendations for standardized test preparation and choice of test (SAT vs ACT), and strategies to foster independence and self-advocacy skills. We guide students through the application process, facilitating their work on essays, interviews, and resumes.
