Pat O'Connell, MAT, MA
Multi-Sensory EF Tutor & Executive Functioning Specialist

Pat O’Connell is a certified teacher, academic tutor, and executive functioning specialist with more than 25 years of experience working with students in Maryland. Her professional background includes classroom teaching, academic tutoring, and supporting students in reading, math, literature, and Spanish. She has worked with students ranging from Pre-K3 through 8th grade and has more than 24 years of experience as an academic tutor. Pat earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Arts from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Providence College.

Throughout her career, Pat has supported students with a wide range of learning needs and profiles. She has particular experience working with students with ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, and executive functioning challenges. Pat understands that no two students learn in exactly the same way, and she takes the time to understand each student's individual strengths, areas for growth, and learning style. With a flexible and individualized approach, she uses practical strategies to help students develop skills, build confidence, and experience greater success in school.

While working as an academic tutor with Educational Connections, Pat completed training in the Wilson Reading Program, a structured, multi-sensory approach designed to support students with learning differences. This training deepened her passion for helping students who learn differently and strengthened her understanding of how multi-sensory instruction can support literacy development. Pat incorporates multi-sensory strategies and other best practices into her work, adapting her approach to meet the needs of each individual student.

Pat believes that meaningful progress begins with understanding how a student learns best. She approaches each student with an open mind and works collaboratively with them to develop strategies that feel practical, achievable, and sustainable. Her goal is to help students become more confident and independent learners while developing the executive functioning and academic skills they need to navigate school more successfully.

Outside of work, Pat enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and cycling classes.
